Introducing Sandy Duncan

Sandy Duncan

We are delighted to introduce Sandy Duncan, the society’s honorary treasurer. Sandy took over the role on 1 April 2023 following a handover from Roger Harrington.

Alexander Duncan, who goes by the name of Sandy, is originally from Aberdeen, Scotland but now resides near Reigate in Surrey. He is married to Alison and has two children, Clare and James.

Over the years Sandy worked at BP Chemicals from 1980 to 2016. He started as a research chemist in Barry, South Wales then moved onto licensing, business development and was latterly in charge of several BP project investments and held chief executive positions in joint ventures with various partner companies largely in Asia.

Sandy returned to the UK in early 2016. He then retired from BP Chemicals to take up the position of chief executive of Oman Methanol Company, based in Sohar in the Sultanate of Oman. He repatriated to the UK towards the end of 2020.

Sandy became a BP pensioner in 2016. His interests are golf, cycling and skiing. He also is an investment adviser with the University of Guildford, Surrey assessing and coaching new start-up companies.

Andrew Blakeman, who took over as honorary treasurer for a very short spell after Roger, continues to make good progress in his recovery from throat cancer and we wish him well for the future.
