Could you be the next editor of bps news?

As you may have read in my editorial on page 2 of bps news, I have decided to stand down as your newsletter editor after five years in the role and I’m looking for someone to take over from me.

I believe I’m leaving the newsletter in a good shape – the design and layout works well, it’s approved by bp and it seems to be well received by members – whether it’s the printed copy sent in the post or the electronic version which is emailed to a growing group of recipients.

Naturally, I’d love to be able to hand over the reins to someone who will be as committed as I’ve been. So what’s involved? There are four editions a year – February, May, August and November. I don’t like leaving things to the last minute, so I’m normally thinking about the next newsletter as soon as one has gone to print. I get my stories from bp press releases and from the memories and recollections sent in by people who have worked at bp. As I’ve always said, this is your magazine and it relies on your stories!

I think it helps that I was a bp employee. I believe I have a better understanding of bp and its community of people than someone from the outside looking in. I’m also fascinated by people and enjoy hearing their stories, and then telling them through the newsletter.

If you think you could be the next editor, do please get in touch. Our contact details are on page 2 of bps news. If you have any questions, let us know and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can.

Finally, I guarantee that whoever takes over from me will get a thorough handover. It would be great to get someone in place soon. In that way, we could work on the August newsletter together and I could introduce you to the designer and printer.
